Children's literature provides the lens for students to better understand social emotional competencies. This workshop will highlight the success Snow Hill Elementary School in Worcester County Maryland has had with the implementation of morning P.O.P. meetings. The presentation will highlight how the five social emotional competencies can be taught through current children's literature in the morning meeting format. The presenters will share their creation of daily morning meetings that utilize current children's literature and teach each of the five social emotional competencies which are additionally rooted in the Common Core literacy standards. Participants will then collaborate to develop lessons based on the children's book Each Kindness. Each participant will leave with a minimum of a week's worth of lessons around a specific social emotional competency and literacy standards. One person from each group will leave with the book Each Kindness!
