The Magic of Collaboration

Does your after-school program need a little magic? Learn how Monaview Elementary’s Monaview Magic Initiative (MMI) after-school program, in collaboration with Clemson University’s Department of Public Health & Sciences, develops leaders in the classroom and community. This holistic program, funded through a 21st Century Community Learning Centers grant, received $167,000, along with Title I funds, to meet the needs of students and their families. Using an inventive approach the MMI follows the Living, Learning Community model, proven highly successful in institutions of higher learning. Students are divided into grade level “houses,” each with a unique identity, including a name, shield and leadership roles they create. MMI strives to provide exemplary programs for the community through an array of family literacy activities. MMI exemplifies the power of a united community, aimed at educating children, assisting families in need and bringing about positive outcomes.

Shannon Land has served as the Title I Facilitator in Greenville County Schools for the past 5 years.
Melissa Munoz

Melissa Munoz has been the Parent Involvement Coordinator at Monaview for the past 5 years. Her primary role is to assist in monthly parent training's that engage parents in their students education.
Damon Qualls

Mr. Qualls has appeared on Stephen Colbert to promote Donor's Choose and has led many presentations throughout his 12 years in the Greenville County School District.
Janice Sargent

Janice Sargent holds a B.S. from Clemson University and has worked in the field of planning and directing comprehensive afterschool, tutoring and family literacy programs for over 30 years. In 2015, she spearheaded a committee at Monaview Elementary School in Greenville County SC responsible for creating a 21st Community Learning Center grant proposal for the South Carolina Department of Education. The Monaview Magic Initiative (MMI) was awarded funding for the afterschool program which began in September of 2016, Janice has served as Project Director since its inception.
