DADvisory Council: Taking Engagement of Fathers and Father Figures to the Next Level!

Discover innovative ways to engage fathers and father figures in topics of importance to Title I schools, school districts and state education agencies using the parent advisory council model. This session guides participants through the process of increasing the engagement of male role models in schools and developing a DADvisory council. The DADvisory council is a highly effective vehicle to provide fathers and father figures a platform to share their voice while promoting a viable way of collaborating for collective student success. Follow the development and journey of the DADvisory council and receive first-hand information on how this council is having a direct impact on the school community including their most recent initiative, Barbershop Books. This session will certainly provide participants with best practices and strategies to take male engagement to the next level!

Arin Bonner

Arin Bonner is a Title I Coordinator responsible for overseeing family engagement in the Title I Office of Charles County Public Schools.  She has over 15 years of experience in education as a classroom teacher and instructional specialist.  Currently, Mrs. Bonner assists with fiscal and programmatic aspects of Title I.  She facilitates and coordinates workshops for family engagement for Title I teachers, parents, and families of Title I students.
Sharron Rouse

Sharron Rouse is a Title I Coordinator in Charles County Public Schools.  She has over 19 years of experience in education serving as a classroom teacher, school counselor, resource teacher, and instructional specialist.  Mrs. Rouse coordinates all aspects of the Equitable Services Program.  She also oversees the only fully funded Title I Three-Year-Old Program in the state of Maryland.
Kristin Shields

Kristin Shields is the Director of Title I Programs for Charles County Public Schools. She has over 27 years of experience in education. Shields began her career as a teacher, instructional specialist, and grant coordinator in Prince George’s County.  She later joined Charles County Public Schools serving as a vice principal and principal.  In 2014, Shields received the Washington Post Distinguished Educational Leadership Award.  She was named the 2016 National Distinguished Principal (NDP) for Maryland.
