As a Title I/Family Engagement Specialist at the Maryland State Department of Education, Young-chan Han works closely with district Title I Coordinators to ensure that all families are meanignfully engaged in education. Young-chan provides school team Profesional Development and training on ESEA Section 1118 requirements and share creative ways to engage parents in Title I Schools. At the April 18th, 2016 U.S. Department of Education’s ParentCamp:International, Young-chan served as one of the planning committee members and was responsible for identifying and inviting immigrant parent leaders to the event. Young-chan also connected with several cultural connectors (both educators and parents) and was able to mobilize over 125 immigrant parents from Maryland. She supported the US Department of Education by organizing the event, supporting with email invitations to parents, educators, and community members, developing facilitator’s guidelines, and evaluations. The ParentCamp International brought parents who represented over 15 languages and countries.
