Dr. Chandar Lewis believes in hard work and that education is a key that can unlock the door to possibilities. In her role as part of the ASCD Team, she serves as a K-12 Implementation Manager. Her areas of expertise are leadership, teacher preparation, professional development, and literacy instruction. Dr. Lewis is a 23-year educator in both higher education and K-12 education. During her tenure in higher education, she served as the Interim Director of Teacher Education and site coordinator through US PREP. She serves as college professor, has served as an Elementary school administrator, a Literacy Coach and classroom teacher at both secondary and elementary levels. Dr. Lewis continues to teach courses and serves on the national board the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP). Dr. Lewis’s educational publications include “Black Male Dropout: Racial Disproportional School Discipline Leads to Increased Prison Populations”, “The Effects of Parental Incarceration on Adolescent Children”, “Barriers to Differentiated Instruction: What School Administrators Should Know” and a commentary article entitled “Daring Leadership: Lessons Learned from Transforming Four Colleges of Education.” Dr. Lewis also has been an invited conference presenter at university development seminars, professional development sessions for K-12 administrators and teachers, and has presented research at numerous national research conferences. Dr. Lewis is a graduate of Tougaloo College with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology, Jackson State University with a Master of Science in Elementary Education, and an Educational Specialist and Doctor of Education degrees in Educational Leadership from Mississippi College. Dr. Lewis actively serves her community through her work within your church, her sorority Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated, the Junior League of Jackson (MS), and the Junior Auxiliary of Clinton (MS). She is a loving wife and mother of three.
