Heidi Smith Alexander’s tenure spans over twenty years in education with exemplary service in secondary, elementary, and alternative education. Her experience has been delimited by east and west coast learning environments that include the roles of teacher, principal, alternative program coordinator, union representative, not-for-profit foundation advisor, and leadership coach/mentor. Heidi has led school improvement in both Title I and high performing schools through her focus on creative solutions and supporting the leadership capacity of all stakeholders. Her record demonstrates a commitment to every student and a passion for a strengths based, collaborative leadership approach. Accomplishments include 2015 U.S. Department of Education Terrell H. Bell educational leader award recipient--one of seven nationally; California Distinguished School Principal; National Blue Ribbon School Principal--the first in her school district; New York State English Language Learner Standards Steering Committee member (under NYS Commissioner of Education—Dr. John King, also former U.S. Secretary of Education); NYS Highly Effective School Principal (under new Common Core accountability measures) and proud mother of two young adult children.
