I am the Alaska BP teacher of the year for 2018, and served as a member of the Council of Distinguished Educators for the National Commission of Social, Emotional and Academic Learning. I received my Masters in the Arts of Teaching from Alaska Pacific University where I published my masters theses on the effects of teaching social skills to first graders. I have served on my schools Social and Emotional Learning team for the last seven years and have led the team the last two. In that time I have created and delivered staff professional development on social and emotional learning teaching techniques four times a year. I have served on Anchorage School District's Social and Emotional Learning, Steering Committee for the last two years. I have been in the classroom, using social emotional learning best practice techniques for the last seven years.
