Lara Randby is the Lead Academic Language Coach for Title I funded schools in Wake County, North Carolina. She has 20 years of experience teaching and coaching for student engagement and academic language development. Ms. Randby has collaborated with a team of Academic Language coaches to create, implement, revise and improve a framework for academic language coaching in elementary and secondary schools. The team builds teachers’ capacity to improve student learning through student engagement, academic language development, classroom discourse, and oral language development. The team has created and published a tool to measure classroom implementation of strategies, and collaborated with district professionals to implement a study linking language development strategies to student growth.
