NEISD serves a broad spectrum of students and families, from refugees to high-income families, from students with intellectual disabilities to those considered intellectually advanced. With such a diverse community to support in the midst of current school climate and safety complexities, NEISD has intentionally researched, identified, and developed internal practices and external partnerships to support the mental health of all district staff and students. One of the most high-impact strategies NEISD has consistently invested in is their partnership with Communities In Schools of San Antonio. Starting in 2008 by case managing 80 students at one elementary campus, CIS-SA has since helped NEISD develop a continuum of mental health care that now stretches across whole campuses and whole feeder patterns of schools and collaborates to design and operationalize trauma-informed strategies, practices, and activities.
