National Board Certification: New Possibilities for Improving Teaching and Learning

Thursday January 31, 2019
1:00 - 2:00 PM
Grand Ballroom 2501 B

The National Board for Professional Teaching Standards (National Board) is the nation’s voluntary advanced certification system. Since its founding in 1987, the National Board has certified over 118,000 teachers, 48% of whom are in Title I schools. The National Board was founded by teachers, for teachers as a deliberate strategy to elevate the teaching profession to one of equally high regard as medicine, law, engineering and architecture. Following a recent redesign of the National Board Certification process, this session will provide participants with an overview of the new certification system, key findings from the substantial research base on the impact of Board Certification, and options for Title I schools and districts to incorporate Board Certification and related resources and approaches to ensure that each and every student has access to effective, accomplished teachers.
