Developing Culturally Agile Educator Dispositions

SESSION CANCELLED

The need for educators to explore and understand the role of cultural self-identity (inclusive of multiple identities of each individual), and become culturally agile with all learner populations is long overdue. Many teacher preparation programs do not include cultural identity and the role it plays in educational settings nor do districts typically provide this training. As learner populations become more diverse and learner needs increase, it is critical to address the cultural agility of educators. I will demonstrate how the optics and lived experiences of the educator shape the outcomes of situations and how these outcomes can either lead to failure and negatively influence relationships or how they can lead to success and positively influence relationships, thus impacting learner achievement. Join me as I discuss research and practice of moving educators along the cultural encapsulation to cultural agility continuum by discussing cultural agility and how to develop it.
