Bringing Relevance to Career and Technical Education

Career and Technical Education in secondary schools must adapt to the needs of the modern economy. In the Beaverton School District, we are leveraging our proximity to high tech businesses to create a Technology Careers Program focused on internships and marketable job skills. Our focus is on traditionally underrepresented and minority students. We have also developed ways to encourage businesses to participate by reaching out to local business associations, providing a template for the internship experience and helping with logistics and coordination for students, teachers and mentor businesses. We are excited to share what we learned throughout this process and show effective ways that your school or district may replicate building successful and impactful Career and Technical Education Programs working with partners in your community.
