Translating the Value of IB for Low-Income and Underrepresented Minority Students
Getting Beyond Credit to Success- Translating the Value of International Baccalaureate programmes for low-income and underrepresented minority students. What are the indicators of potential student success in college and how does International Baccalaureate foster those factors for underrepresented students? How has IB transformed college outcomes for diverse groups of students? Students in Title I IB schools have high retention and on time university graduation rates. The academic rigor of IB courses combined with the core elements and the IB Learner Profile traits provide excellent preparation for college and career success. Let's explore how schools in the ESEA Network can implement IB 16+ programmes to enhance college and career readiness.

Marie Vivas
Marie works closely with university admissions officers and with university faculty on IB recognition issues. She has also taken the lead in creating a series of Access Workshops for IB Counselors and Coordinators working with low income students. Most recently, she has presented sessions on the impact of teacher well-being on student achievement, college counseling in the era of trauma, working with refugee students, and helping underserved students feel they belong in elite programs and institutions.
