


Presenters will share the background of a once low performing school who became a model of school improvement through a tight focus on high expectations for all students and three essential practices – changing school culture with systems of school-wide expectations, using high leverage instructional practices within a multi-tiered system of support, and using data effectively to focus on individual student growth. Outcomes include: an understanding of three essential practices. a structure for difficult conversations. an action plan template to bring back to their team. a critical view that all students deserve equity of access to these practices. The presentation will include multiple opportunities for collaborative activities including a variety of partner share structures and a give one, take one strategy to elicit further feedback from colleagues. They will receive a jot sheet to take notes, reflect, and plan for implementation in their own buildings.

Amy has spent the majority of her career in Title I schools as a teacher and administrator, striving for continuous improvement and opportunities for students. Amy uses a data driven approach to guide her decision making. During her time as a principal, the campus earned A+ School of Excellence and Amy was named a Maricopa County Exemplary Principal. She also worked as a district director in research and achievement, curriculum and instruction, and federal projects. With a systems approach, Amy supported teachers, administrators and her colleagues.
Prior to joining WestEd, Stephanie served as a turnaround principal in Arizona at a Title One school. By building a leadership team and staff who focused on high yield strategies, the school became an A rated Arizona School, A+ School of Excellence, ICLE Model School for Growth, and Stephanie was named a top ten principal in Arizona for growth. The staff committed to changing the school culture with a system of high school wide expectations; using a research-based curriculum with fidelity; and using data effectively to focus on growth. Stephanie holds an Ed.S. in Leadership (Oakland University), M.Ed. in Media & Technology (Eastern Michigan University), and a B.A. in Journalism. (Grand Valley State University). She has extensive knowledge through continued doctoral level courses and leadership experiences in effective K-12 organizations.
