READ: Read, Eat, and Discover

In 2014, the National Title I Association and the International Literacy Association (ILA) engaged in a partnership to develop a pilot program called Read and Feed. This community-based program combines volunteer-led reading and literacy instructional programs with existing Title I school vacation-based food programs to improve student reading and literacy skills as well as foster parental engagement. Initially piloted in Illinois and Louisiana, this program now also includes Missouri. Several other states have expressed interest. Title I Directors in each state work with ILA chapter representative within the state to identify Title I Schools to launch the program. Come learn how each of these states have incorporated this program into their literacy activities and how you could develop such a program in your state as well.

Julia Cowell is the Missouri State Title I Director. 
B.J. Granbery

BJ Granbery is Assistant Superintendent for Educational Services at the Montana Office of Public Instruction, serving as state Title I Director as part of her responsibilities.  BJ is a long-time member of the National Title I Association and serves as Chair of the Reading Subcommittee.

Stephen Sye is the Associate Executive Director of the International Literacy Association. Stephen has successfully overseen the strategic implementation and execution of the operations divisions of multi-million dollar for profit and nonprofit corporations spanning across the financial, health and wellness, medical, and education sectors.
