With the increased violence in our schools and community, the question has been asked, where are the men? How do you start a male engagement program? In this session, participants will learn how to create a program to engage males in schools to positively impact student achievement. Attendees will receive step-by-step guidance on all phases of developing and sustaining a male engagement program, including the school selection process and how to engage community partners, mentors, and stakeholders. Recommendations and strategies will be provided on how to overcome barriers, navigate obstacles, and cultivate growth mindsets. During the session, participants will learn how to assess their school culture, prepare and train staff, and utilize data to assess the program’s impact on the whole child (academics, attendance, social-emotional learning, etc.).
