Passion Projects for Equity

This workshop will explain the idea of passion projects and why they must be implemented to recommit, renew, and reimagine what we can do to promote and increase student agency, equity, and engagement. This presentation will share the story of how a middle school teacher and instructional coach began a journey to bring about schoolwide change and ignite the passions in their students and school. They will share the stories of what is possible when students are given the choice to learn and research about anything they want to, then create, and share with their peers. Passion Projects can enrich gifted students, but also increase the learning for all students including those with disabilities, with severe trauma, refugee students, and those who identify with the LGBTQ community. In this presentation, you will also learn how to begin a path to implementing inquiry-driven individualized passion projects and how to integrate assessment best practices in your own classroom.
