Equitable PD Solutions for a BIG State
The session will begin with an overview of objectives and the Teacher Learning Hub, the model around which the session is based. The first section will share the successful collaboration stories between IDEA and Title IIA. After learning professional development design principles, participants will reflect on how online learning can enhance their own professional learning collaboration models. A mini-lecture discussing techniques for incorporating these principles during the course design process will follow. Participants will be provided with materials to support implementation. The second section of content will focus on course review and management. These processes are key to ensuring that the principles discussed in part one are maintained. Participants will explore tools pertaining to these processes and begin to identify aspects they can implement. The final activities will allow participants to ask questions and encourage thought about their own model and goals.

During her 25-year career in public education, Colet has presented to school, statewide, and national audiences on topics that include: school library program evaluation, information literacy curriculum, school improvement, standards-based grading and reporting, content standards development, technology in education, collaborative teaching strategies, and formative assessment. Her additional expertise in online learning and active learning strategies are specifically pertinent to this presentation. Under her leadership, the Montana Teacher Learning Hub has become one of the most exciting and meaningful programs the Montana Office of Public Instruction offers to provide equitable access to high quality professional development for ALL Montana educators.
Carli Cockrell has been in education since 2004, having taught pre-school through higher education students. She has a graduate certification in Online Learning for Adult Learners and a Master’s degree in Educational Technology. Her studies of andragogy and instructional design theory have proven beneficial in her professional learning coordination work at the Montana Office of Public Instruction and as a former instructional designer at Great Falls College Montana State University. She has developed professional learning for educators on a wide range of topics, including accessible design, flipped classrooms, integration of educational technology, and online course design.
Throughout her nearly 20-year career in public education, Christy Mock-Stutz has presented to school, statewide, and national audiences. Her topics include content standards and instruction, formative assessment, and online learning. As the English Language Arts and Literacy Instructional Coordinator at the Montana Office of Public Instruction, she has developed and facilitated numerous online courses on the Teacher Learning Hub to promote equity and collaboration between teachers, communities, and students.
