Leveraging the Teach to Lead Experience to Advance Student Achievement

This workshop explores the Teach to Lead framework and how Schenectady City School District (SCSD) leveraged it for meaningful change. Attendees will gain practical tools, templates, and insights to apply within their districts. The workshop has three objectives: understand the Teach to Lead framework; analyze SCSD’s approach to problem-solving; and engage in collaborative discussions focused on positive impact. Participants will leave with clarity and confidence to adapt Teach to Lead strategies.

Speakers
Monica Young

Monica has 20 years’ experience managing, directing, and providing technical assistance to state, local, and post-secondary organizations across the US. As director of the Effective Educator Development (EED) TA Center, funded by the U.S. Department of Education’s Office of Elementary and Secondary Education, Monica manages and contributes to development of technical assistance plans and implementation of workshops, trainings, and peer coaching activities in support of up to 350 grantees across six grant programs. Monica oversees the planning and execution of twice annual Teach to Lead events that provide regional and school-based teams with time to collaborate, develop skills, and receive professional consultation to develop and refine an innovative project that will make a positive impact for educators and students in their schools, communities, districts, and states. In addition to coordinating the planning for these events, Monica also serves as a critical friend for teams at the event and provides a learning session focused on successful project planning. Monica also supports state education agencies as a subject matter expert for several U.S. Department of Education-funded Regional Comprehensive Centers, working most closely with Mississippi, Tennessee, and Rhode Island. Monica previously managed the Equitable Access Support Network for the U.S. Department of Education, which provided working groups, resources, and feedback to state education agencies as they worked to engage local school districts and communities to draft and implement state educator equity plans. Earlier in her career, Monica served as the Manager of the Accountability Metrics Unit at the New York State Education Department where her team was responsible for developing accountability measures and providing clear communications and visualizations for executive staff members and the community.

MaryAnn Meyers

MaryAnn Meyers is the Recruitment and Retention Specialist in the Schenectady City School District’s Human Resources Department. A proud graduate of Schenectady schools and a long-time community member, she brings a strong personal connection to the district she serves.

With a professional background in Human Resources across both the public and private sectors, MaryAnn helps lead recruitment and retention efforts focused on building a teaching workforce that reflects the diversity of the district’s student population. Her lived experience, combined with her HR expertise and deep understanding of the community, uniquely positions her to contribute to—and speak on—the district’s ongoing journey toward a more diverse, inclusive, and representative teaching staff.

Dr. Patrick Jean-Pierre

Dr. Jean-Pierre is the Principal of Paige Elementary Community School. He was formerly the Assistant Director of Recruitment and Director of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion at Schenectady City School District.
