From Data to Action: Empowering Teachers and Leaders to Optimize Instructional Practices

Embark on a journey through the story of Midway Elementary, a nationally recognized Title I school's data-driven success, uncovering actionable insights for pushing all students to excel. This session is designed for teachers and leaders who are committed to improving student achievement and offers essential strategies for leveraging data effectively. Discover how data transforms outcomes and leave with practical tools, ideas, and a roadmap for implementing data-driven decisions in your own district. By the end of the session, participants will: Understand the importance of cultivating a data-driven culture that fosters collaboration and positive support. Understand how to analyze data to inform instructional practices by identifying trends, strengths, areas for continuous improvement. Be equipped to develop teacher-created benchmarks that align with the state standards, accurately assess student progress, and facilitate targeted instructional planning and practices.

Brandi Todd

Dr. Brandi Todd is an esteemed educator with over 26 years of experience in Elementary Education. Holding vital roles such as classroom teacher, Instructional Coach, Assistant Principal, and now Principal for the past 5 years, Dr. Todd is committed to student success and meeting the needs of all learners. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education from Armstrong Atlantic State University, a Master’s degree in Education from Central Michigan University, and a Specialist’s degree in Education Leadership from Valdosta State University. In 2022, she earned her doctorate in Curriculum and Instruction from Valdosta State University. Notably, through her hard work and dedication, Dr. Todd has led Midway Elementary School to be named a 2016 National Blue Ribbon School and guided her staff and students to be recognized as a 2023 National ESEA Distinguished School for Exceptional Student Performance and Academic Growth for two or more consecutive years. Driven by a commitment to continuous improvement, she challenges staff to uphold high standards daily and fosters a data-driven culture while forming vital relationships with all stakeholders. Dr. Todd is known as a caring, compassionate, and supportive leader who empowers teachers and leaders to use student data for instructional improvements. In all of her actions, Dr. Todd continues to “Make Excellence Standard.”

Cole Walsh

Cole Wash, an education professional with 15 years of experience, began his career as a middle grades classroom teacher and coach and is currently serving as an assistant principal. Mr. Walsh holds a Bachelor’s Degree ofi Science in Education from the University of Georgia and a Master’s Degree of Science in post-secondary education from Troy University. He is currently A.B.D. from Valdosta State University in Curriculum and Instruction. Notably, Mr. Walsh played a pivotal role in leading Midway Elementary School to national recognition as an ESEA Distinguished School for Exceptional Student Performance and Academic Growth for two or more consecutive years. Passionate about both leading and learning, Mr. Walsh is known for his supportive leadership style and commitment to excellence. He builds strong relationships within the community and with the students he serves, consistently upholding high standards and providing unwavering support.

Theresa Alonso

Theresa Alonso is a data driven education professional of 16 years with a strong desire to support teachers and students through effective and impactful positive changes. She holds a Bachelor's degree in Music Education and two Master's degrees in Middle Grades Math and Science Education and Education Leadership, along with a Specialist degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Valdosta State University. With a strong foundation in data analysis and data-informed decision-making, Theresa brings a wealth of knowledge to her role and has been instrumental in leading Midway Elementary School to national recognition as a 2023 ESEA Distinguished School for Exceptional Student Performance and Academic Growth for two or more consecutive years. She also holds certifications in Gifted Education, Special Education, Dyslexia, and English Speakers of Other Languages as she embodies the spirit of a true life-long learner. Theresa's teaching experience spans across High School and Middle Grades as a general education and special education teacher, as well as a math interventionist. Currently, she serves as an Instructional Coach, lending her expertise to support excellence in elementary education. Theresa is driven by a deep sense of passion for continuous improvement and learning and is recognized for her creativity and unwavering support.
