Family Engagement for High Quality Schooling Experiences focuses on supporting educational leaders in reimagining high-quality family partnerships and enacting culturally affirming and responsive strategies so that all students and families may thrive. Given the context of California’s bold Universal Prekindergarten policy and the implementation of Universal Transitional Kindergarten that provides access to high-quality early learning environments for all four-year-olds, the workshop discussion emphasizes the need for leaders to engage in critical reflection to enact family-centric vs. school-centric practices in the early learning environment that can shift traditional power dynamics. Furthermore, the session emphasizes the importance of amplifying family voices, particularly those from marginalized communities, to foster equitable partnerships and collaborate with school communities in co-constructing high-quality educational experiences.
