Community as the Heart and Soul of the McKinney-Vento Act

Even before it was passed into law, communities acted as the heart and soul of the McKinney-Vento Act. Researchers, educators, community-based organizations, and advocates knew a group of students needed us to see them and help them open the doors wide to the possibilities of a public education. The work begun back then continues today as the McKinney-Vento Act provides students without housing rights and resources while also outlining school responsibilities in ensuring that barriers due to homelessness are removed for the benefit of the entire community.
