Bridging Two Languages: 3 Daily Shifts to Strengthen Dual Language Instruction

What if language wasn’t taught as content but designed as a cognitive tool for thinking? This interactive session introduces three daily instructional shifts: Lighten the Load, Connect the Dots, and Build Bridges. These moves streamline dual language planning and deepen learning across Spanish and English. Grounded in cognitive load, schema, and transfer theory, the shifts reduce isolation between English and Spanish teachers and help students make meaning across languages. Participants will engage with real student work from a 50/50 dual-language first-grade classroom and leave with tools to support collaborative planning, cross-linguistic routines, and instructional clarity. Designed for teachers, coaches, and leaders, this session centers on equity, coherence, and student success in bilingual classrooms.
