Picture This: Harnessing the Dual Languages of Pictures and Words to Advance Every Learner

At the intersection of pictures and words lies an untapped resource proven effective for advancing the literacy learning of those who struggle. Discover how working with these dual languages not only draws reluctant writers and struggling readers into a rich literacy experience, but also advances their reading and writing, and yes, even their test scores. Observe at-risk students in grades 1-5 engaged in creating and sharing the quality picture books they’ve created aligned with ELA Standards and grade-level curriculum. Listen to their heartfelt comments as they reflect on their experiences. Then experience for yourself the power of moving between pictures and words, image and text. Discover how words can make a picture come alive! Finally, review compelling findings from decades of independent research. Learn how a simple paradigm shift can result in significant gains for those students who struggle with words.
