Volunteer Tutors Succeed Using Data for Literacy Interventions In-Person and Virtually

Thursday February 11, 2021
12:00 - 1:30 PM
Workshop 4

This presentation documents a successful collaboration between a school district, a community-based non-profit organization, and two universities. The collaboration provides hundreds of elementary students across multiple schools and settings with targeted literacy interventions. Participants will learn about the framework the program uses to provide training on data driven literacy instruction to its volunteers. Participants will analyze data on student performance growth and review student engagement data captured before and during the months of distance learning. Additionally, participants will see how volunteers modified interventions and assessment protocols during distance learning to ensure student engagement, progress in reading skills, and uninterrupted connection between tutors and students during distance learning. In addition to documented student growth, the collaboration provides volunteer civic engagement and professional development.
