Professional Learning for Teachers of English Learners: Meeting New Challenges

Thursday February 11, 2021
10:00 - 11:00 AM
Lecture 3

English Learners (ELs) spend most of their day with general education teachers who have a legal obligation to help ELs access the curriculum. Yet, many teachers have had little or no opportunity to learn strategies to support ELs. The pandemic has upended traditional in-person professional learning sessions, and will change how training is done in the future. This session will delve into ways to make professional learning accessible and relevant to all teachers as we navigate a new future, whether learning is remote, in-person or blended. The leader of a Title lll EL Consortium will share adaptions to the new realities with online learning, recorded training, book studies and more, in order to equip teachers to work effectively with ELs. This, in turn, will allow ELs more equitable access to the curriculum. There will be opportunities for sharing and discussion.
