Differentiating Instruction for English Learners By English Language Proficiency Level

Monday February 8, 2021

Workshop 1

English learners come to school, with a wide variety of unique academic needs, but also with a wide range of linguistic, culture, language, personality, interests, and attitudes toward learning. Effective educators recognize that all of these factors impact El success in the classroom, and they understand the need to differentiate instruction to meet students' needs based on their proficiency level in the language of instruction. This session will address the need for teachers and school leaders to understand how to take the information regarding the level of proficiency in and across the four domains of language to plan, deliver, and assess classroom instruction based on the student’s English language proficiency level. This approach to differentiating instruction by ELP level will assist educators in meeting the diverse needs of students across a variety of proficiency levels.
