Redefining Rigor with Depth of Knowledge (DOK)

Depth of Knowledge continues to be a focus and priority in education. However, if your understanding of DOK as a concept and a framework is cloudy or unclear, you're not alone. In this presentation, you will learn how Depth of Knowledge measures the cognitive demand of academic standards, curricular activities, and assessment items. You will learn how the DOK levels can be used to plan and provide teaching and learning experiences that are standards based, socially and emotionally supportive, and student responsive. Most importantly, you will learn how Depth of Knowledge redefines rigor by clarifying what exactly students must learn and confirming how deeply they must understand and use their learning to demonstrate proficiency, develop competency, and perform successfully.
