Regardless of age, education, or race, women volunteer more than their male counterparts. Volunteering (or engaging) in schools follows the same trend. School involvement is designed and has been monopolized by females (teachers, caregivers, etc.) Yet, research tells us that positive male role models are vital to a child’s development. This emphasizes the need for repairing male relationships with schools as we continue to ask men (fathers, father figures, uncles, granddads, etc.) to be more engaged. We must address the history of the gender imbalance in education and work to restore this relationship, consequently engaging more positive male role models in our school communities and creating meaningful connections for kids, one high five at a time (or in Covid-Time, one elbow bump at a time). The DUDEs In Schools is an initiative designed to help father/father figures find their "place" in school communities. It is built upon the ideals of repairing, encouraging, and connecting.
