It's About Relationship: Connecting the Dots for Kids in the Foster Care System

This session tells the story of two programs in the larger Denver Metro area who provide face to face mentoring, case management and school district collaboration for students who are in the foster care system. We will discuss the foundational role of relationship building and emotional connection with students, our collaboration with school and district leaders as well as robust data sharing relationship with county level departments of human services.

Speakers
Addi Cantor

Addi is a Licensed Social Worker, and Professional School Social Worker in Jeffco Public Schools. As a founding partner of the Fostering Opportunities program, she has passionately and collaboratively worked for over 11 years to improve policies and practices that impact students in foster care at all system levels, with the students voice and experience at the center.

Brianna Colleran

Brianna is a Senior Specialist in her 7th year with the Fostering Opportunities program as a Master of Social Work with Jeffco Public Schools. In this role, Brianna is dedicated to advocating alongside students and their families to ensure every student is celebrated for their strengths, has their voice heard, and receives an equitable experience on their journey towards achieving their goals. Brianna balances the direct interpersonal relationships with a macro-level approach to improving the collaboration between educators, child welfare teams, and community partners to improve the experience of students and their families within these interconnected systems.

Michelle Holmes

Michelle has been working in the school system since 2013. She has her Masters in Educational Leadership. She has an anointing to serve and help people, especially her students and public speaking. Currently she is in her 2nd year of working with Federal Programs as a Foster Care Liaison.
