Bloom's 2 Sigma Problem- Solved!: How Title I Schools Can Use Tech to Improve Math Scores

Thursday February 8, 2018
10:00 - 10:30 AM
Exhibitor Session Room A

1:1 instruction is the most effective way to provide mastery learning. Students who receive 1:1 mastery learning instruction perform 2 standard deviations above the mean performance of students who receive the same instruction in a traditional classroom. In the 1970s, when Professor Bloom studied this phenomena, 1:1 instruction was not feasible to provide to millions of students. However, similar to the disruptions in transportation with companies like Uber, technology has opened new avenues to connect students and educators on-demand. Personal devices and school tablets are opening the door for edtech companies such as Duolingo (for languages), Thinkful (for programming) and Yup (for math/science) to provide personalized instruction for students at scale. In fact, Title I schools are the largest users of Yup's 24/7 support service. Come to this session to learn how you can use Title I funds to bring 1:1 instruction to your school to improve scores, and empower your teachers.
