Developing Mathematical Thinking in Title I Schools: Diagnostic to Targeted Activities

Thursday February 8, 2024
11:00 AM - 12:30 PM
Virtual Workshop 5

This presentation will showcase the successful transformation of multiple underperforming Title I schools at the primary level. Our focus is on the early identification of students facing challenges in mathematics and the implementation of targeted interventions to develop their foundational skills and knowledge. We will highlight the utilization of the Primary and Intermediate Mathematics Assessments to diagnose K-2 and 3-6 students in key predictive domains. This diagnosis allows us to collaborate with teachers in providing specific curricular tasks to improve student learning across these domains. Our presentation will center on six predictive domains of math success and their impact on student understanding: sequencing, fact fluency, contexts, relational thinking, measurement, and spatial reasoning. We will refer to peer-reviewed research from multiple journals and provide evidence of student achievement.
