Demonstrating Title I, Part A Program Compliance through Effective Documentation Practices
Federal programs require a lot of documentation, but sometimes we’re so busy implementing programs that the documentation aspect falls by the wayside. A lack of effective documentation practices can lead to inconsistent program implementation and identified areas of non-compliance during monitoring. Understanding the difference between policies, processes, and procedures will demonstrate compliance and help avoid loss of program knowledge after staff turnover. Developing an intentional system of documentation will pay off throughout the school year by ensuring staff know what to document and the difference between documentation that tells a story and documentation that says nothing. Although some of the examples shared during the presentation will be Title I-specific, the concept of effective documentation will benefit those working with a variety of federal programs at both the LEA and SEA level.
