Associate Director of the Center on School Turnaround
WestEd

As Associate Director of the Center on School Turnaround (CST), Sylvie Hale oversees a number of projects as well as day-to-day operations of the Center. She is also project manager for the School Turnaround Learning Community (STLC), a key element in the U.S. Department of Education’s (ED) effort to provide support to state, district, and school leaders working to turn around the nation’s lowest-achieving schools. For both projects, she works closely with ED staff and key stakeholders at State Education Agencies (SEA) and partner organizations. She combines her deep knowledge of school and district improvement with her experience in applying technology to complex educational issues, as well as her recent state and federal work in organizational change and effectiveness. Hale also serves as the lead on the California Comprehensive Center project for organizational development and efficiency. Within this role, she works closely with SEA staff and leadership on issues related to creating efficiencies in compliance monitoring, effective program administration, collaboration across department divisions (e.g., Title I and Title III), and integrating improvement efforts with a focus on implementation and sustainability. Previously, Hale was Director of WestEd Interactive, where she managed WestEd's work with web-based and multimedia technologies that provide clients with solutions to complex data and information management needs.
