Participants will hear how the Kids Read Now model fosters an at-home reading experience to support reading gains, especially during the summer months. Working with families to become collaborators, this family engagement model empowers students and caregivers to read together, with support available in multiple languages. Hear how book choice, engaging discussion prompts, and reading momentum help children reach their reading goals, and research on how we close reading gaps through consistent practice at home. Participants will leave with access to family and teacher activity packs to use with students and families. Participants will have a chance to engage in text-based activities paired with common books, which makes this model appealing to educators and adaptable to most school and classroom libraries. In addition to participating in pre-created activities, session attendees will create their own activities and games around specific books and share them with those in the room.
