Remington Elementary School
COLORADO SPRINGS, CO
"Our Remington Mustangs are 'FIRST IN PRIDE.'"
- 1. Tell us about your school’s success.
- Remington Elementary is a positive behavior support school where educators are focused on knowing, loving, and recognizing students both behaviorally and academically. We set high expectations and grow all students from where they are. Our Remington Mustangs are "FIRST IN PRIDE".
- 2. Talk about the greatest contributing factor(s) that promoted positive change in your school.
- By focusing on the Sand Creek Zone's Instructional Framework of CULTURE, INSTRUCTION, and SUCCESS, Remington fosters an environment of joy, purpose, and continual improvement which is yielding consistent year-over-year results on both local and state assessments. We leverage our funding for people and our time for targeted instruction. Remington’s success can be attributed to the strength of our staff, the consistency of our data review, our continual collaboration around improving instruction, the explicitness of our interventions, and our connectedness to our community.
- 3. How has ESEA funding supported the school's success?
- Title I and READ Act funds source additional intervention personnel - in both literacy and math - as well as after school tutoring time with certified teachers. More teachers means smaller groups of students who can receive targeted instruction at their unique levels. We hire staff who are motivated to analyze and grow - themselves and their practices - through ongoing training and resources based on students' ever-changing needs.
- 4. What professional development activities were used to improve teaching and learning?
- We hire staff who are motivated to analyze and grow - themselves and their practices - through ongoing training and resources based on students' ever-changing needs. Our commitment to weekly Professional Learning Communities, coaching cycles, peer observations, and regular coach-led instructional planning sessions enable us to keep a constant eye on fresh data and make instructional decisions which support continued growth.
- 5. Talk about the cultural shift leading up to your school's success.
- Our vision for building culture is to create a school that feels like a home and relationships that feel like family. We anchor ourselves in “Mustang PRIDE”, focusing on teaching, recognizing, and rewarding these attributes through daily announcements, monthly rewards, and quarterly celebrations. We throw surprise 100% Attendance Parties and Positive Office Referral celebrations to recognize students and staff for their intentions and efforts.
- 6. How has community involvement strengthened your success?
- We love our Mustang Families! We consider each family member a partner in our school community. Each year, we invite families into our school a dozen or more times to engage in opportunities for learning and fun. From our Back-to-School pep rally to our holiday celebrations, grade level musical performances to STEM night, Student-Led Conferences to Multicultural Night, we ensure families are treated as a welcomed and essential part of student success stories.
