Hyde Park MS has been the Nevada State Science Olympiad Champions for eleven consecutive years.
Describe specific programs in place to ensure that families are involved in the success of your school and students.
WATCH D.O.G.S. (Dads of Great Students) is the father involvement initiative of the National Center for Fathering that organizes fathers and father figures in order to provide positive male role models for the students and to enhance school security. The Hyde Park Middle School, Parent Involvement Committee is ran and organized by parents to assist the students and staff of Hyde Park Middle School. Monthly PAC meetings are held to keep parents informed about the school's upcoming events, testing, student achievement, and to address concerns.
Describe the most successful activity your school has initiated to strengthen ties to your community.
We conduct Da Vinci Days, Pi Days, Open House, Metric Days, Family nights. Additionally, Hyde Park MS has been the Nevada State Science Olympiad Champions for eleven consecutive years and multiple other awards for various competitions, including Spelling Bee, Future Cities, VEX robotics, Geography Bee, Math Counts, and Science Bowl.
Describe your philosophy of school change or improvement.
We are continuing to improve. We want to close the gaps and increase student achievement for all students.
What are your school’s top two goals for the next year?
1. Increase student achievement in reading.
2. Increase student achievement in math.
What is the single most important factor in the success of your school that others could replicate?
Hyde Park Middle School was named a Kindness Matters national school. Because of the students and staffs commitment, we are officially a Kindness Certified School!
Describe the program or initiative that has had the greatest positive effect on student achievement, including closing achievement or opportunity gaps, if applicable.
Hyde Park's Academy of Advanced Academic Study: Math, Science, Language Arts, and History curriculum has had the greatest positive effect on student achievement. We have fundamentals classes to provide support and intervention, and we utilize multiple software programs, such as Read 180, System 44, AIMS web, and Accelerated Math to provide additional interventions.
Explain how Title I funds are used to support your improvement efforts.
Title 1 funds are used on technology, fundamental programs, and professional development. Technology equipment includes: laptop & cart, Ipad & cart, printers, LCD projectors. Fundamental programs include: Read 180, System 44, and Accelerated Math. Additionally, we utilize funding to provide tutoring to our students and teachers.. Professional development includes: Kagan Cooperative Learning, Infinite Campus, Classroom Management, Analyzing & Interpreting data to drive instruction, Nevada Teacher Performance Framework, Smarter Balanced Assessment Consortium. Also used to create Hyde Park's Parent Center with technology and resources for them to utilize on the school's campus.

The Administrative Team plans and organize professional development activities in a structured cooperative and collaborative atmosphere that sets the stage that will enhance student engagement and apply relevant and rigorous instruction and activities.
Describe how data is used to improve student achievement and inform decision making.
Data is used to identify proficient and non-proficient students so that classes are offered to challenge Hyde Park students, and provide fundamental classes for struggling students. Teachers also utilize data to tailor lesson that meet students needs.
Describe your school culture and explain changes you’ve taken to improve it.
While we are certainly devoted to the advancement of learning in all of the academic areas, we believe strongly in the development of our students’ aesthetic interests as well. As Leonardo da Vinci so ably demonstrated, we believe in helping our students develop a deep love of learning. While our students are enrolled in a very advanced academic program, we want them to develop skills so that when the time is appropriate they have the ability to pursue whatever profession they desire. As a result of our pedagogy, you will see that our students participate in a wide variety of activities and competitions.
