A significant factor contributing to the success of F. J. Scott Elementary focuses on student achievement and academic excellence. A system of clarity, collaboration and consistency is implemented to ensure all students are learning at high levels. Our campus implements a “High Expectations, No Excuses” philosophy to ALL students and the entire school community.
F. J. Scott is a data driven campus. Data analysis enables teachers to make appropriate instructional decisions. Building teacher capacity is a priority as well as providing the necessary time and resources for high levels of student learning and team building.
We have received several accomplishments reaffirming our commitment to student achievement. These include; National Blue Ribbon School, National Title I Distinguished School, Texas Honor Roll School STEM designation in Math and Science, A+ Gold Ribbon School, TEA “A” rating with six distinctions, H.E.B. Excellence in Education Award, and recently a TEA “A” rating. - 2. Talk about the greatest contributing factor(s) that promoted positive change in your school.

There are many contributing factors that promote positive change in our school. One of the most important attributes is the powerful sense of TEAM work. Working together, the entire school community goal is to reach high levels of learning and excellence for all, “No Excuses.” We ensure that the school community’s team must “Walk the Talk.” Being a model of continuous learning and instilling a thirst for knowledge promotes life-long learning. When a school community creates a positive welcoming, emotionally supportive learning environment, everyone wins.
At F. J. Scott Elementary students develop a sense of belonging, which helps them learn important social and emotional skills and achieve academic success. Educators strengthen their relationships with all students and have fewer discipline problems in their classrooms. Both teachers and students experienced less stress and greater satisfaction with their school when everyone works as a TEAM. - 3. How has ESEA funding supported the school's success?

ESEA funding greatly supports the success of F. J. Scott Elementary and the improvement of educational opportunities for ALL students. A variety of computer based programs are implemented to improve student achievement to meet the needs of all learners and close the learning gap across diverse student groups.
The acquisition of hardware and software such as Flat Interactive Panels and Lead4ward Staff Development are funded through ESEA to improve the teaching of reading and other subjects. After-School Tutorial Program is a great resource for students needing to meet HB4545/HB1416 High Impact Tutoring requirements and is implemented through ESEA funds as well. STEAM programs such as College 1st is also enhanced through ESEA funding and provides rigorous and in-depth lessons to build a strong foundation for science, technology and engineering, the arts, and math to promote creative and critical thinking. ESEA funding is used to improve the quality of education programs for students.
- 4. What professional development activities were used to improve teaching and learning?

Professional Learning Community Sessions (PLC) play a big role in staff development. PLC Sessions are held weekly and are “non-negotiable.” PLC’s promote a deep focus on learning, build a collaborative culture, and focus on results.
Professional Development sessions that promote and improve overall effectiveness in the classroom are mostly provided In-House. Campus administrators facilitate these sessions. Topics include: Characteristics of Highly Effective Teachers, Goal Setting/ SMART Goal Model, Clarity on Instruction/Unpacking of TEKS-Content/Context/Cognitive Complexity, Alignment of Written/Taught/ Tested, Data Analysis Process, Using Data for Instructional Decisions, Vertical Alignment, Effective Monitoring, RTI Process, Differentiated Instruction, Test Design, and Unpacking of T-TESS. Building teacher capacity ensures all students are learning at high levels and help teachers upgrade their skills. - 5. Talk about the cultural shift leading up to your school's success.
- The campus culture at F. J. Scott Elementary has been a leading contributor to the high levels of success at this campus. High levels of motivation are a characteristic of F. J. Scott. Each year is initiated by launching a theme to motivate the entire school community. This message is used throughout the school. It is used on memos, school/classroom decorations, and banners to promote learning. T-shirts are also ordered for everyone to wear on Tuesdays. This promotes teambuilding, motivates students, and communicates the school message to the community enhancing school/community relations. This year’s theme is “Experience the Magic of Excellence.” Commitment, passion, willingness to go above and beyond, unity, and a continuous drive to improve has allowed this campus to soar to great heights. This campus believes a positive and nurturing environment leads to high levels of success for all.
- 6. How has community involvement strengthened your success?

Parents are encouraged to become active participants in their child’s education. Communication is the key. Informing parents and community about the school’s happenings is highly emphasized. Immediate feedback on student progress is provided. Information is conveyed via, Parent Square app, phone calls, conferences, and home-visits.
Numerous activities that foster positive relationships are held throughout the year. Meet the Teacher is scheduled to provide parents the opportunity to learn about yearly expectations and discuss possible concerns. The AR Kick- Off, Grandparent’s Day, and the Read Across America Celebration are hosted by the school librarian. Award Assemblies and Christmas Programs are scheduled to celebrate and share student success with parents and the community. UIL Events, Fall and Spring Fests, and Career Day are implemented to foster parent/community involvement. These activities promote an authentic partnership between the school, parents, and the community.
