Fairview Elementary School
IDAHO FALLS, ID
Embracing the growth mindset as a school, community, and staff has truly created a shift within our learning and learning environment."
1. Tell us about your school’s success.
Fairview is successful for many reasons. Fairview truly embodies the word collaboration. Between it's teachers, RTI, PLC's and a unified school vision teachers cohesively work as a building to bring all students to a level of proficiency.

As a team, Fairview has created a common goal of equipping students with the strategies to achieve proficiency in all academic areas by defining essential standards, analyzing data, utilizing trainings, the PLC model, and the Teacher Clarity Playbook. Through this process, students achieve at consistently rigorous levels.
2. Talk about the greatest contributing factor(s) that promoted positive change in your school.
There are many contributing factors that promote positive change in our school. Fairview, as a whole, operates with the notion that all means all. A teacher's students are not just the students within the four walls of his/her classroom, each child in the school, collectively, is every teacher's. For example, during our RTI block, children move fluidly between grade levels and classrooms each day, and that allows intense intervention and differentiation to individually meet each student's needs.

Also, as a staff and with our students, we wholly embrace a growth mindset model. When we enable ourselves and our school with a mindset that contributes to positivity and growth, our school culture permeates that same attitude. Additionally, that mindset allows our students and our staff to be critical thinkers and problem solvers.
3. How has ESEA funding supported the school's success?
ESEA funding has supported Fairview's success in many ways. We have utilized the funds to employ a full time Title I paraprofessional, a certified Title I Instructional Coach and a certified part time Title I Kindergarten teacher. All of these positions collaborate with general education classroom teachers in a multitude of manners to enable all learners.
4. What professional development activities were used to improve teaching and learning?
Fairview has participated in several professional development activities to improve teaching and learning. All teachers participated in a Professional Learning conference to drive their goals on PLC days and also participated in a book study on the Teacher Clarity Playbook to further their mission and achievements on collaboration days.

In addition to this, staff and teachers have participated in curriculum specific professional development to gain a deeper level of understanding of the materials implemented in their classrooms. These trainings include Read Side-by-Side and Phonics First.

We have also focused on backwards design and planning instruction as a team with a goal in mind. Paired with our essential standards and the Teacher Clarity Playbook, our understanding and knowledge of proficiency has intensified and allowed us to consistently create rigorous learning experiences for our students.
5. Talk about the cultural shift leading up to your school's success.
Fairview's positive culture and success can be contributed to many specific components.

First, implementing the RTI process and having a dedicated RTI team has allowed teachers, administrators and parents to cohesively create a specific learning plan for their child when Tier 2 intervention is needed.

Utilizing a school-wide schedule with dedicated times for Tier 1, Tier 2 and Tier 3 instructional times has solidified for students, and the community the importance of learning and implementing best practices to maintain the power of what is occurring in our classrooms. With this school wide schedule, it allowed our priority learning standards to be at the forefront of our classroom instruction.

Lastly, embracing the growth mindset as a school, community and staff has truly created a shift within our learning and learning environment. It has been a catalyst in teachers taking risks within their classrooms and students becoming comfortable with persistence, determination and growth.
6. How has community involvement strengthened your success?
Fairview is a community school and operates wholeheartedly as a community hub. Our staff and school openly communicate with parents and students which creates a level of transparency so that they truly feel like they are a cohesive part of their child's educational journey.

Fairview hosts a variety of community and school events from PTO meetings to basketball practice to Literacy Night to Meet the Teacher.
