Our school culture is to provide a liberal arts preparation for post secondary education. We prepare our student body with a rigorous academic program and provide concurrent college credit with a nearby university.Expansion of our AP Program continues to support these initiatives.
What is the single most important factor in the success of your school that others could replicate?
McNair Academic High School has introduced and taught 23 AP courses with all students taking at least one course befor graduation.
Describe the program or initiative that has had the greatest positive effect on student achievement.
The AP program has raised the standard of achievement since it is offered in all disciplines.
Identify the professional development activities you use to improve the teaching portion of the teaching and learning process.
Professional development is offered by the College Board and the school provides funding for the teachers to attend these offerings. In turn teachers return to the school and turnkey the information received at the conference.
Describe how data is used to improve student achievement and inform decision making.
The school has a standing Data Team which meets regularly and assesses data from sources such as AP scores, SAT, PSAT,HSPA and the like to monitor and address any perceived weaknesses. Prescriptions are implemented based upon these findings.
