Eads Elementary School
EADS, CO
We have worked hard to build a "team" mindset in our building.
Describe specific programs in place to ensure that families are involved in the success of your school and students.
Parents and guardians are notified immediately if a student is struggling, or not completing his or her work. Communication with parents and guardians is vital to ensure that every student succeeds.
Describe the most successful activity your school has initiated to strengthen ties to your community.
We have an open house at the beginning of every year and host an ice cream social for the community. We also invite the community to events such as the senior citizen Thanksgiving dinner.
Describe your philosophy of school change or improvement.
Every decision is based on what is best for students. It is imperative to base decisions on data and not emotions. It is very important that all staff members buy into this plan for it to be effective.
What are your school’s top two goals for the next year?
1. Every year we make it a goal to be the best elementary school in the nation.
2. Our second goal to give every student the tools to be successful out in the real world.
What is the single most important factor in the success of your school that others could replicate?
Facilitating a culture that honors the goal of giving every child the opportunity to be successful.
Describe the program or initiative that has had the greatest positive effect on student achievement, including closing achievement or opportunity gaps, if applicable.
After school homework has had a great impact on our student achievement and helping students to stay caught up. In many cases, just simply providing a quiet place after school each day is crucial to struggling students.
Explain how ESEA federal funds are used to support your improvement efforts.
Our school uses the majority of the ESEA funds to hire reading interventionists and para-professionals trained in reading.
Identify the critical professional development activities you use to improve teaching and student learning.
Our staff attends a variety of staff development opportunities. Differential instruction has been a focus as well as data-driven instructional strategies. The most recent area of concern that will be addressed with staff development will be in teaching students that have had traumatic and social/emotional challenges.
Describe how data is used to improve student achievement and inform decision making.
We use local and state assessments to drive instruction. The staff is continually assessing the levels of students and making decisions on how to best help them. Students that are below grade level are given remediation through small group instruction and interventions.
Describe your school culture and explain changes you’ve taken to improve it.
We have worked hard to build a "team" mindset in our building. The staff works well together and the main focus is always on student achievement and developing productive citizens,
