Bell City Elementary
Bell City, MO
We work hard on strengthening our Tier 1 instruction.
- 1. Tell us about your school’s success.
- Our school exhibits a poverty rate of 61.54%. Despite that we demonstrated high academic achievement on the 2022-2023 MAP test. Our school focused on intervention groups with a push in pull out model. We also worked hard on strengthening our Tier 1 instruction by using a mulit sensory approach in reading and math. After school, we started a targeted tutoring group where students how scored in the basic and below had to stay for tutoring. This has allowed us to target those skills our students lack.
- 2. Talk about the greatest contributing factor(s) that promoted positive change in your school.
- The science of reading training our teachers received was a positive change for our teachers and students.
- 3. How has ESEA funding supported the school's success?
- ESEA has allowed Bell City Teachers to participate in professional development and has given us ideas on skills and strategies to use in the classroom on a daily basis.
- 4. What professional development activities were used to improve teaching and learning?
- All teachers are working towards LETRS. All teachers are also trained in Connections: OG in 3D. Connections is a proven, engaging, science-based, structured literacy reading solution. Built on the foundation of Orton-Gillingham, Connections is curriculum and teacher training.
- 5. Talk about the cultural shift leading up to your school's success.
- We changed our schedule so that our teachers would have the same common planning time. This has allowed us to have collaborative sessions and form PLCs. Our teachers feel heard and are treated like the professionals they are.
- 6. How has community involvement strengthened your success?
- In the 2020 school year our school started having Parent Night where we focused on how parents can help their child at home.
