The Revitalized Tutoring Center: Disrupting Inequity Through the Power of Peer Tutors
Featuring the revitalized high school tutoring center model, this session will actively engage participants in responding to the challenge schools face in supporting our most at-risk students in “failing forward” without losing motivation and credits in the process. With the goal of ensuring all students have equitable access to timely, directive, targeted and embedded supports, this session will examine the interrelated power of a revitalized tutoring center, collaborative teams, and formative grading practice as a means to improve graduation rates and shrink gaps. This presentation will engage a wide variety of educational leaders, including administrators, teachers, counselors and others associated with secondary education. We will feature the details, structures and impact of a robust tutoring center and will then engage participants with approaches to customize tutoring center models for a wide variety of school settings.
