Leadership in America's Best Title I Schools

Thursday February 23, 2017
1:00 - 2:00 PM
Grand Ballroom A

There are impressive Title I schools that serve low-income communities, do not use selective admissions policies, and boast multiple indicators of high academic excellence for every demographic group served. Not surprisingly, leadership is key to the success of each one of these schools. But what do these leaders do that is different from the practices of leaders in other Title I schools? What makes it difficult for leaders to bring about powerful changes in school culture, curriculum, and instruction? How do some leaders manage to overcome those difficulties and help their schools make dramatic changes that influence the trajectory of students' lives? These questions will be addressed with findings from 11 years of study of some of the nation's highest performing Title I schools.
