"Take Me Home" UnMasking the Fear of Communicating With EL Families

This interactive, engaging presentation will share the powerful true story of "Take Me Home" through the eyes of EL students who have an inspiring message for teachers. “Take Me Home” was published in July of 2021, and is the true story of 11 of my former EL students who give a first-hand account of what it’s really like to become bilingual in America. It will also include: -Background information on our EL students in the U.S. -Deliver “use tomorrow” resources for staff and leaders to immediately communicate with EL families -Teach the 10 essential questions to ask when receiving an EL student -Provide a concrete road map of how to collaborate with teachers who are currently supporting EL students -Demonstrate how to connect EL's building, district, and countywide! -Allow attendees to participate in an immersion activity to experience what it feels like to be an EL student
