Closing the Achievement Gap in Mathematics for Title I Students
Boosting academic achievement for children from low-income families has long been a goal for schools and districts. But it can be both challenging and daunting to close the achievement gap in math. However when students are engaged at every level, and attaining fundamental math skills, they come to believe (and know) that they are good at math. In this presentation, ExploreLearning will share their research on how math fact fluency can make a difference in achievement and test scores for Title I students.

Speakers
Monika Bell
During her 20-year career in public education, Monika Bell spent 16 years serving students in Title I schools. In addition to being a classroom teacher of students ranging from grades 5-8, Monika also served as a Title I School Liaison, a Mathematics Curriculum Coach and as a Mathematics Instructional Specialist in the district office. Monika has a Bachelor's degree from the University of Florida, a Master of Science in Teaching from Florida Atlantic University, and is a National Board Certified Teacher. As an Implementation Coordinator for ExploreLearning, Monika conducts trainings and works as a liaison between ExploreLearning and Broward County, Florida, aligning science and math curriculum for workshop, classroom, and online use. With a core believe that all students can learn, she recognizes the importance of high quality instruction paired with appropriate tools and is committed to optimizing the learning experience for students.
