The Secret to Successful Professional Collaboration

This presentation focuses on developing a successful peer consultation model: what works, what doesn’t, and how to continually evolve. Learn about SETDA’s TIIA Collaborative, made up of SEA colleagues who manage Title II, Part A and other ESSA federal grant programs. We will share strategies for supporting each other’s work, highlighting experiential insights, and creating space to explore topics that may be confusing, challenging, or overwhelming. We will also describe how the TIIA Collaborative creates effective resources such as fact sheets on best practices, needs assessments, and allowable uses. This interactive workshop will create opportunities for participates to interact, network, and share how Title II funds are used in their district and state. District leaders will come away with a deeper understanding of how Title II funds can be used, while state leaders will be welcomed into a community of professional.

Julia Fallon

Prior to joining SETDA as executive director, Julia worked for the Washington Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction (OSPI) as the Title II, Part A Program Lead. Her lifelong professional interests and expertise include exploring the collective and creative impact of thriving online communities.

Tate Toedman

Tate Toedman serves as an Assistant Director on the Special Education and Title Services team, He oversees multiple ESEA programs and serves on cross team monitoring processes. Title I, Part A, Title II, Title IV, Part A, Title V, and Title VIII of ESEA are a large part of his responsibility when it comes to programming. He serves as a lead for EANS and ESSER relief programs. He also serves on our monitoring teams that monitor across programs for special education, and ESEA monitoring of programs. He currently serves as the state coordinator for Title II programs and as the Private School Ombudsman for the state and has since 2015. He has previously served as the State Coordinator for the Education of Homeless Children and Youth. He has been an Assistant Director since July 2017 and been with the Kansas State Department of Education since 2006. He currently serves as co-chairperson of the NAESPA Government Relations committee and has for over two years and currently serves as the NAESPA Region 4 lead.

Silvana Gorton

Dr. Gorton’s expertise is rooted in experiences as a school psychologist, adjunct faculty in a bilingual education teacher preparation program, and with federal programs. In Nevada, Silvana has helped design and implement initiatives essential to improving education for educators and school leaders.

Elizabeth Rush

Elizabeth Rush is a self described policy wonk who enjoys reading ESSA and EDGAR guidance. Serving as a Program Supervisor for Title II, A in Washington state, is the latest step in Elizabeth’s ongoing commitment to advancing equity and DEIB in student education.
