Equity Leadership to Improve Student Outcomes
Learn about three districts with Title I schools that improved their pre-covid behavior outcomes and during covid academic outcomes through equity-advancing moves, specifically professional learning and coaching around racial equity, teaming structures, technical and adaptive leadership, and implementation of equity-based multi-tiered system of support. Engage in conversations about 10 equity-advancing moves you can make in your district and schools to benefit students often relegated to the margins of school life and achievements.

Speakers
Monica R. Dixon
With 25 years of experience in education, Monica has collaborated with multiple educational teams nationwide to redesign school cultures and systems, including one of the districts addressed in this presentation. Currently, she is the Team Lead for SWIFT's work with a large state agency, working to strengthen equity leadership and install MTSS support for all students across the state.
Angie Caster
Angie’s personal and professional experiences with students, families, teachers, and administrators across elementary and secondary settings have set a strong foundation for the work of transforming educational systems. She is an experienced leader at district and state levels. She is passionate about ensuring equitable access and instruction to students through the implementation of a Multi-Tiered System of Support.
J. Hoon Choi
J. Hoon Choi is Associate Director of Research and Evaluation for SWIFT Education Center and a member of its Executive Team, and an Assistant Research Professor at the Life Span Institute at The University of Kansas. He holds a doctorate in Special Education and has extensive experience in positive behavioral interventions and supports as well as equity-based multi-tiered system of support (MTSS). He studies equity-based MTSS implementation as well as leads federally sponsored Institute of Education Sciences studies of related innovations.
Dawn Miller
Dr. Dawn Miller is Associate Director of Partner Engagement and Systems Design for the Life Span Institute, SWIFT Education Center and is a member of the Center’s Executive Team. She serves as a co-principal investigator for many projects focused on enhancing student outcomes at the intersection of equity, inclusion, with an emphasis on students who have been traditionally marginalized. She is a sought-after speaker and thought partner across the country and has a passion for supporting courageous leaders who know our system can be better for students and families. Her experience includes roles in statewide and district planning, professional learning, and implementation and evaluation of an integrated Equity-based Multi-Tiered System of Support (MTSS). She is a best-selling author of Leading Equity-Based MTSS for All Students, and has contributed to the literature in several Best Practices in School Psychology volumes, as well as authored other publications related to MTSS and family engagement.
