Scobey Elementary School
Scobey, MT
"Scobey is a very tight-knit community."
1. Tell us about your school’s success.
The success that our students and school have seen come from many different working parts. Our staff members work together with a team effort to ensure that our students receive what they all need. Our teachers and support staff work together seamlessly throughout the day to help all students. Staff use data to analyze student scores and see where there may be gaps in their education. Students receive help before and after school, as well as throughout the school day. Our students are being taught the importance of hard work and have seen the great things that can happen when they work hard to achieve a goal.
2. Talk about the greatest contributing factor(s) that promoted positive change in your school.
A large part of our positive change is that our staff has begun to integrate data from our district’s formative assessments to better plan our instruction and interventions. We are working to make data informed decisions to better help our students and guide instruction and interventions. Our staff uses that data to identify struggling students early on so interventions can be put in place. Early intervention plays a huge part in ensuring student success through his or her education career.
3. How has ESEA funding supported the school's success?
The ESEA funding that we received helped us to send a group of teachers to the National ESEA conference. The teachers will bring the information that they have learned back to our school to help educate our other staff members, which will then be used to improve classroom instruction and school culture.
4. What professional development activities were used to improve teaching and learning?
Our school district helps teachers to pay for professional development opportunities to ensure they are all receiving quality professional development. We encourage staff members to grow their knowledge and work to ensure staff members can attend workshops and classes that they feel are meaningful. The district has also placed an emphasis on looking at the mental health of our students and staff and professional development has been used for that as well.
5. Talk about the cultural shift leading up to your school's success.
Our school is very lucky to have a tight-knit group of educators that have been teaching here for a number of years. We have been able to be consistent with instructional practices and expectations for many years and that has been shown to help our students succeed.
6. How has community involvement strengthened your success?
Scobey is a very tight knit community. When students are in need, community members step up in many ways to ensure that students have what they need. Parents help to ensure students get what they need inside and outside of the school and work to support the work that the school is doing daily.
