Haynes Academy School for Advanced Studies
Metairie, LA
"We have stayed true to our mission and vision."
1. Tell us about your school’s success.
Haynes Academy for Advanced Studies is currently the #1 High School in the state of Louisiana. Our students consistently score at the top on Louisiana's state standardized test, the LEAP test. The students are also given opportunities in Dual Enrollment courses, Advanced Placement courses, and a schedule mostly consisting of Honor's level courses. Students who choose to, also have the opportunity to earn an Industry Based Certificate while working towards their focus in Engineering. Haynes also teaches students one year a head which allows for our Seniors to meet graduation requirements early. This allows our Seniors the opportunity to begin taking classes towards their college majors or area of interest.
2. Talk about the greatest contributing factor(s) that promoted positive change in your school.
Haynes Academy has a dedicated school community. This consists of administrators, teachers, staff members, students, and families. They are the largest contributing factor in our positive change. Having a faculty who will go above and beyond for our students, students who truly crave instruction, and families who help foster the important of education have helped our school perform amongst the best.
3. How has ESEA funding supported the school's success?
ESEA funds have helped foster a school culture around academic success. Our funds have provided students, families, and teachers with access to AP curriculum resources, ACT tutoring, Family Engagements geared towards college readiness, career speakers, and LEAP study skills. ESEA funds have also helped us purchase Instructional supplies; AP Calculus resources, Math supports for middle school students, online resources and licenses, graphic calculators, DE licenses, and PBIS initiatives.
4. What professional development activities were used to improve teaching and learning?
Haynes Academy has weekly cluster sessions. Every week, teachers meet with our Master Teacher to go over topics ranging from data analysis, interventions in the classroom, pedagogy, student work, differentiation, group work, lesson objectives and goals...Our clusters are focused around our schools need. We get together as a leadership team and meet to discuss where we are, where we want to go, and how to get there. A plan is then developed and clusters focus on achieving these goals.
5. Talk about the cultural shift leading up to your school's success.
We have stayed true to our mission and vision. The mission of Haynes Academy for Advanced Studies is to provide an exemplary learning center that encourages students and staff to actively discover, integrate, and apply knowledge in a dynamic, global, and technological environment.

The Vision at Haynes Academy for Advanced Studies, we envision a school in which the community, staff, and students are committed and have an opportunity to contribute, learn and grow. Haynes strives to be a school where everyone feels valued and respected. Above all, we want a school where students are proud to attend and parents are proud to send their children.
6. How has community involvement strengthened your success?
We have a very involved school community. Our families are in constant contact with teachers regarding their child's academics and their paths towards graduation. Haynes Academy families attend events, help raise funds for the school, decorate our campus, assist teachers with classroom setup, and much more. The community involvement helps instill a passion for education. When our students see their families involved with their education, they recognize the importance.
